Description
One reel to reel recording. Boltin served as emcee. Billed as Grooms and Friends, their performance began on T87-57. Red played guitar, and Murphy the mandolin and the banjo. Their performance concluded on T87-59. Red and Murphy began as Red and Murphy and Co., who performed in the Southeast between 1975 and 1987. The bluegrass group consists of Red Henry on guitar and mandolin, and his wife Murphy Henry on banjo (and the group's songwriter), as well as two of Murphy's sisters -- Argen Hicks and Nancy Hicks. All members sang harmony. Based out of Hawthorne, Florida, Red was from North Florida, while the sisters were all Georgia natives. The group performed at the 1978 and 1987 Florida Folk Festival. After that, they performed as a duo. By the late 1990s, Murphy was a renowned banjo instructor, and Red toured with their son Chris.
