Description

This film profiles 1969 National Teacher of the Year Barbara Goleman. The film starts with Goleman at the beach and a voice-over narration of her explaining her teaching philosophies. Then there is footage of her in the classroom at Miami Jackson High School discussing a poem from “A Coney Island of the Mind” by Lawrence Ferlinghetti. She and her class go on a field trip to the Everglades and take an airboat ride. There is additional information about the demographics of the high school and other schools in Miami-Dade County. At the end of the film, she and a group of students go down a large slide.
