Description
Slave bill of sale resulting from a foreclosure on the mortgage of William Maner of Gadsden County, Florida. Maner had mortgaged three slaves, Joannah, Jeff, and Sarah to the Union Bank. The mortgage was record by the Gadsden County Clerk of Court. Edward C. Cabell and Charles H. Dupont were appointed commissioners by the Leon County Superior Court to effect the sale of the three slaves after Maner was unable to meet his obligations on the mortgage. The slaves were sold to William Monroe at public auction for $700. The ages of the slaves are not listed.

Know all men by these presents that whereas by virtue of a Decree of the [Honorable Superior Court] of Leon County, Middle District of Florida, in the case of the Union Bank of Florida v Wm. Maner on petition to foreclose Mortgage, we, C.H. Dupont & E.C. Cabell, commissioners appointed under said decree to sell certain property of said Wm. Maner, mortgagee by said Maner to said Union Bank of Florida, proceeded to take into our possession the negroes named Joannah, Jeff, & Sarah... named & described in one of the deeds of mortgage made by said Maner to said Bank & of record in the clerk's office of Gadsden County. And whereas said negroes were by us thus exposed for sale at public auction, in the town of Quincy, County of Gadsden, after thirty day previous notice given in the Floridian & Sentinel, papers published in the City of Tallahassee, according to the provisions of the decree aforesaid, and sold to William Monroe, for seven hundred dollars, being the highest sum bid for the same, now be it known that we, E.C. Cabell & C.H. DuPont, commissioners as aforesaid, by virtue of of [sic] said Decree, & in consideration of the sum of seven hundred dollars, to us in hand paid by said Monroe, the receipt whereof is hereby duly acknowledged, have granted, bargained, sold & transferred, & by these presents do give, grant, bargain, sell & convey unto Monroe, his executors, administrators & assigns the aforesaid negroes, Joannah, Jeff & Sarah and all the right, title & interest which said Wm Maner had in & to said negroes, or which said Bank had by virtue of any mortgage executed by said Maner to said Bank, to have & to hold said negroes, Joannah, Jeff, & Sarah, unto said Monroe,
