A report from the Cuban Refugee Center in Miami for distribution to government agencies involved in the Cuban Refugee Assistance Program (CRA). The publication consists of human interest stories about the progress of resettlement efforts for Cuban refugees and highlights efforts at the local, state and federal levels to provide assistance to Cuban refugees. Refugees in Florida and elsewhere who participated in the CRA program also share their experiences.

General Note

The Cuban Refugee Assistance Program (CRA) was a refugee assistance program brought about by the mass exodus of Cubans from their homeland following the Revolution of 1959. From the early 1960s to the mid-1990s, more than one million Cubans immigrated to the United States. The majority settled in South Florida. The CRA provided healthcare, employment and educational services to Cuban refugees upon their arrival in the United States. The program, approved by President John F. Kennedy in 1961, was administered by the Florida Department of Public Welfare until 1974.
