General Note

The Gandy Bridge opened in 1924 to connect Tampa and St. Petersburg. Before it was built, travelers had to make a 40-mile circuit from Tampa to get to the Peninsula of Pinellas County where St. Petersburg is located. A second bridge was later constructed in 1956.
