The speakers will be Secretary of the Interior, Mr. Julius A. Krug, Senators Spessard L. Holland and Claude Pepper, Governor Millard F. Caldwell, and possibly President Truman. The Mutual Broadcasting System will carry the above speakers and ceremonies to the nation. The Miami stations feel that this event warrants all Florida stations carrying this broadcast, and that the Florida Association of Broadcasters should bear the cost of same; so your Board of Directors has agreed to make this broadcast available to all stations that desire to take it, and the Mutual Broadcasting System has agreed to any station tying in with their facilities. It is impossible due to limited telephone facilities for more than one origination to be made, so, therefore, we are dependent on feeding this broadcast from the Mutual lines. Governor Caldwell has written me, as President of Florida Association of Broadcasters, a letter urging all stations to participate in this broadcast. I am enclosing a copy of same. The Everglades National Park, comprising of 1,250,000 acres, will become the newest public part [sic] in the nation, and its opening will unquestionably bring added thousands of tourists to the state each year, with the results of increased income for all sections of Florida. The dedicatory ceremonies will be held in Everglades City --- the broadcast time is 2:30-3:00 p.m., December 6 --- and here is the plan. There are 13 Mutual stations in florida --- 7 of which are in markets with more than one station. In these 7 markets, Daytona Beach, Jacksonville, Miami, Orlando, Pensacola, St. Petersburg-Tampa, Tallahassee, and FAB will not pay any expense for the non-Mutual stations to take the broadcast, as it can successfully be done by re-broadcast, or if you care to, non-Mutual stations can tie into the Mutual station's board and be fed direct.
