THE WHITE HOUSE
WASHINGTON
January 20, 1961
Honorable Farris Bryant
Governor
State of Florida
Tallahassee, Florida
Dear Governor Bryant:
In our telephone conversation before your inauguration, it was left that - when you had time available after the initial pressures of taking office - you would arrange an appointment for me to discuss with you the Cuban refugees situation as it affects Florida; and also for the purpose of making sure that any work that I am doing in your State is performed in full coordination with you as the Governor. At our later brief meeting at Clewiston. You agreed to let me know when such an appointment would be convenient for you.
If in the meantime there is anything which gives you concern about our operations down there, I would, of course, welcome any criticism or comments which you may care to make by phone or otherwise.
As a matter of information, I have sent to you separately a copy of my report to the President and his press release about it; also, a Progress report which my colleagues in the Refugee Center prepared, describing the work of the Center.
Yours faithfully,
Tracy S. Voorhees
President Eisenhower’s
Representative for Cuban Refugees
