UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF BOTANY GAINESVILLE, FLORIDA 32601 April 15, 1966 Please address residence -- 1729 NW 8th. Ave Gainesville, Florida Governor Haydon Burns Tallahassee, Florida Dear Governor Burns: From my point of view, and no doubt many others interested in the development of great potentials in Florida, your splendid efforts that secured the interest and plans for development by the DISNEY PRODUCTIONS in central Florida are to date one of the great accomplishments of your administration. I wish to see the Disney development succeed and this is the reason I am writing to you, for I might contribute to some details of the planning. After 5 years with the Florida Geological Survey, 1941 - 46, 20 years with the University of Florida, and acting as consultant for the U.S. Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville, concerning the Everglades water problems, and aiding the Everglades National Park, I feel competent concerning surface water problems and wildlife and vegetation in many parts of the State. I could help the Disney people with management of water and wetland areas, such as they have on their Florida Property. They seem to wish to retain as much of their natural landscape as possible and beautify areas. As a botanist and experience in appraisals of plans for wetlands and waters and water management related to vegetation and wildlife. Therefore, I request that you put me in contact with the men who are planning the Disney development, and, if you will, please recommend me to them. I know of General William E. Potter of Disney Productions but do not know his address, or the address of the office in Florida that is making the plans. Please inform me about these. Sincerely and Respectfully yours, John H. Davis Professor of Botany RECEIVED APR 18 1966 GOVERNOR’S OFFICE TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA
