Reporter Lee Mainella discusses Conch Republic Party Day at the State Capitol. State workers were served slices of the "World's Largest Key Lime Pie" by Governor Bob Graham. The pie was meant as a symbol of peace between the United States and the Conch Republic.

General Note

When the U. S. Border Patrol set up a roadblock on Key West to trap illegal immigrants and drug smugglers in April 23, 1982, irate Key Westers "seceded" from the United States. They established the "Conch Republic" complete with flag, prime minister and other pseudo-official trappings. The fantasy republic flourishes in fun, festivities and the sale of souvenirs.
