General Note

Chapter 11849, Laws of Florida 1927, empowered the comptroller to reopen closed banks with consent of the representatives of 75 percent of the total deposits. Under the act, the comptroller could freeze a percentage of a bank's total deposits. A 1929 amendment of the act stipulated that, in order to use this strategy to reopen banks, the comptroller needed to provide ten days notice by publication to allow time for interested parties to object.
