General Note
Throughout Florida, ethnic radio programs are a means of cultural expression, reporting news from the homeland and notifying community members of social events such as dances and celebrations. Alfredo Gallegos broadcasts over Radio Continental 1430 AM from a tiny studio in a former tomato field southwest of Florida City. During his airtime he often promotes dances produced by his brother, Armando. La Fuerza del Norte is shown being recorded live at Radio Continental on Mother's Day, 1995. The radio studio was so small that the musicians had to stand outside in the field in the hot morning sun to play.
Personnel (L-R): La Fuerza del Norte, led by accordionist Tomas Granado; bassist Guadalupe Rivera; David Avalos, bajo sexto and vocal; Alberto "Beto" Espinoza, Jr., snare drum.
