The gate opens to ocean side of the park. The road in the foreground is Highway AIA.
The Florida Park Service first acquired the park property from the Federal government in 1954. In 1992, the name of the park was changed to Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area in honor of folk singer Gamble Rogers, who drowned at the park while saving another swimmer in October 1991.
