Born on August 12, 1884 in Wakulla County. Married Leila Estelle Rhodes. In 1907 Langston, 23, was appointed Tallahassee's Chief of Police by incoming Mayor John Henderson and later that year ran for sheriff. Elected to a 4-year term as Leon County Sheriff, he became the youngest person known to have held the office of sheriff in the history of the state. Leon County Sheriff Willie M. Langston was shot and killed while trying to serve an arrest warrant at a turpentine camp outside of Spring Hill on March 19, 1909. His name is inscribed on the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington, D.C. (Panel: 49-W: 20).
