One of the first U.S. Senators from Florida (along with James D. Westcott, Jr.)
Served: 1845-1851 and 1855-1861.
The first United States Senators from Florida were David Levy Yulee of St. Augustine and James D. Westcott, Jr., of Tallahassee. Yulee and Westcott took their seats at Washington on December 1, 1845. Yulee won, by lot, the long term, running to March 3, 1851, while Wescott's term expired on March 3, 1849.
