Such is the story of the Gulf Stream, a river of balmy, blue water
which flows through a cold, green ocean. Scientists, however, are not
satisfied that this is the whole story. The earth is not a perfect sphere
and this results in a difference of ocean levels. The pull of gravity at the
equator is not the same as it is in arctic regions. These and other factors
may have a great influence on the flow and characteristics of the Gulf
Stream. Scientists are still studying this great current, for any change in
it might change the destiny of Europe and of other continents.
