Accompanying note: "Born in Philadelphia, Oct. 8th 1812. Graduated from the U.S. Military Academy. Did service on the northern frontier in Georgia and in the Florida War."
"After resignation from the Army he moved to Florida where he filled important positions in the State Militia. Rose from Capt. to Lt. Col. of the cavalry before being taken prisoner, as a member of the Florida Brigade, during the Civil War. Died in Quincy, Mar. 4th 1869."
