[Articles of agreement] made this day February 18th 1867 between Marion J. Clark and Clayborne Boston, Freedman, as follows -- I Clayborne agree to work the balance of this year for said Clark to do all and every kind of work generally done on a plantation, and I promise to work faithfully and diligently, and to rise early and to be attentive to the business. And I, the said Clark, for the faithful performance of the above by said Clayborn, do promise to furnish him with usual rations and to pay him seven dollars per month at the end of the year, deducting out all lost time for sickness or absence without my leave at prorate rates.
