State of Florida Jefferson County Know all Men by these presents that this contract entered into this first day of January one Thousand eight hundred and sixty seven between John P. Strickland of the one part and the following named colored person of the other part. To Mr. Henry Bouie, Everett Bouie, Alfred Bouie & Joseph Walker, I, John P. Strickland, for my part binds myself to furnish land, team and all necessary tools to cultivate the soil, to hand and feed the team, and give half of every Saturday and turn over to above said laborers my half of the entire crop except cane and only one third of it. All lost time to be kept and accounted for at the rate of 40 cents per day if from sickness - and at $100 per day if taken without cause by everyone. Said lost time money to be divided in like manner as the crops are. We the undersigned and before named laborers for our part bind ourselves each and individually to serve the said Strickland in the capacity of field hands binding ourselves to obey all orders coming from said Strickland. We further agree and bind ourselves to allow full control to said Strickland. We further agree to feed ourselves by selling to us such provisions as can be spared off the place to be paid for next fall from our portion of the crop. We further bind ourselves to carefully guard the conduct of ourselves and families and see that our neighbors in their effects are not disturbed in any way and that our conduct shall be such as becomes honest and industrious citizens and servants. Any violation of the written contract suggests the offenders to discharge and forfeiture of so much of what may be due him as an agent of arbitration shall determine. All differences arising on account of this contract shall be mutually settled shall be submitted to a board of Arbitration composed of two reliable citizens, one selected by each party, and the agent of the B.R.F.&A.L., whose decision shall be final.
