Grow More Food!
OUR COUNTRY is calling on Leon County Farmers to produce more and better foor for their families. The farm family should and can be well fed at all times.
The Leon County Defense Council recommends that each farm family, both white and colored, do these things:
1. Produce and can 100 quarts of fruit and vegetables more than it ordinarily does.
2. Grow 15 bushels more of sweet potatoes and 5 bushels more of Irish potatoes.
3. Grow and store 34 bushels more of dried beans and pease.
4. Produce 15 gallons more of syrup or honey.
5. Raise 5 bushels more of peanuts.
6. Keep at least two milk cows and care for them well so that the family may have plenty of milk and butter.
7. Have a year-round garden including a variety of at least seven vegetables.
8. Grow enough fruit to supply its needs, especially pears, grapes, plums, and blueberries.
9. Raise enough pork to fill its needs and have home raised beef as often as possible to vary the meat diet.
10. Keep and care for a flock of 35 or more hens to provide eggs and poultry meat.
We are sure Leon County farmers will rally to the defense of their country and their families.
