Biographical Note
George W. Lee was a member of Company C, First Florida Cavalry, USA during the American Civil War. Although Florida seceded from the U.S., Union military forces raised two cavalry units during the conflict. Lee was originally from Andalusia in Covington County, Alabama (born March 14, 1835), he and his wife Elizabeth relocated to the Pensacola area. Lee was mustered into service at Barrancas near Pensacola in March 1864 and was promoted to corporal on June 7, 1864. George W. Lee died in a hospital at Barrancas on December 11, 1864.
