Accompanying note: "Iron pours not only provide students and artists with instruction and shared resources but also demonstrate the community aspect of metal sculpture. A lot of energy is generated and used to melt cast iron. It is wasteful if only one to a few people are using the molten iron for sculptures. Thus, cast iron artists cannot operate in solitary. They must have a community in order to continue to create. This is evident in the iron pour events which often involved live music, food, and activities. The extended community was invited to come and watch the pour as well as enjoy the festivities."
