I was reading my Defender newspaper the other night + I ran across a letter that you had written to a friend in Jackie Robinson's column.

I can't tell you how very proud I am of you - and all of the other wonderful young people that are fighting with you. I say "fighting"

Dear Miss Stephens,

I was reading my Defender newspaper the other night + I ran across a letter that you had written to a friend in Jackie Robinson's column.

I can't tell you how very proud I am of you - and all of the other wonderful young people that are fighting with you. I say "fighting"

because it was a fight [sic] - to freedom - + a just cause that we will surely win - with God's help.

My prayers are with you - you + your friends make me so proud to be a negro.
