Dear Patricia and Priscilla,

Since you don't know me, as the saying goes, "from a hill of beans" this letter may as well begin with an introduction. I'm a senior English major at the College of Wooster, a small liberal arts school in north central Ohio. My home is in Auburn, New York. Last year I had the privilege of studying in Tokyo, Japan under the junior year abroad program of the Presbyterian Church. This experience gave me a new and uncomfortable perspective on our troubled world.

All I want to tell you is that I, along with hundreds of others believe in what you and your fellow students, are trying to do and wish to support you in any way I can. I am most impressed by the moral power of the non-violent methods you have been using. We greatly respect your courage and the sincerity if your spirit of Christian love. We pray that you will be given the strength to continue in this spirit and that it will overcome the hate and fear of those who oppose you as it is overcoming the

shameful apathy of many of your fellow Americans.

We are raising funds for CORE on our campus and we are trying to find constructive ways of dealing with unjust practices in our own community. If we can be of any help to you in any way please do not hesitate to let us know. If you have time for letter writing we would appreciate becoming better acquainted with you and with the situation in your area. We do hope you will soon be out of jail if you aren't already. Meanwhile we are thinking of you all.
