CORE NATIONAL COUNCIL

February 11 and 12, 1961
The Council is one of CORE's two national meetings a year. It meets to make plans for the coming year, to share ideas, and to implement our national program. The Council gives suggestions for coordinated action; it gives direction to the national staff. The way your local group gives voice to its ideas and its needs is through the Council and Convention.
Who attends? Each CORE chapter is expected to send one delegate. Only one delegate from each affiliated group votes, but CORE groups are encouraged to send others.
Agenda: We would like you to make suggestions for the agenda now. On the agenda should go your ideas for making CORE a more effective, dynamic organization. Problems which have troubled your group as well as plans for national program and development should be included.
Make plans to be represented in Lexington on the weekend of Lincoln's birthday. The Council is strictly business, but Lexington CORE is already laying plans for a banquet and a party as well. Return the preliminary reservation blank at the bottom. Detach and return it now even if you are not sure who your voting delegate will be. Your prompt cooperation will be appreciated. In a short while you will receive a more detailed announcement.
The cost of the Council will not be great. Each local group is responsible for the travel expenses of its delegate. However, upon request national CORE will pay one-half the round trip bus fare for one-half the actual transportation cost (whichever is less) for each voting delegate. Many groups give a special fundraising party or other event to raise money for their delegates to the National Council and Convention. The charge for meals and the banquet will be modest. There will probably be free housing for those who register early.
