General Note

Silver Springs is the oldest tourist attraction in Florida. Following the American Civil War, tourists began arriving to the area by boat. Eventually the spring became a popular location for filming movies, including Tarzan the Ape Man (1932). The Ross Allen Reptile Institute and the Seminole Indian Village were popular attractions at the spring.
