A brochure about the events happening during the 24th annual Florida Folk Festival in White Springs, Florida.
The 24th annual Florida Folk Festival sponsored and produced by the Stephen Foster Center, with the assistance of Florida Federation of Music Clubs, will be held on the banks of Suwannee River at the Stephen Foster Center, White Springs, Florida on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday, Sept. 3, 4, 5, 6, 1976. White Springs is located on U.S. 41 in North Florida just 3 miles off I-75 via S-136.
Florida Folk Festival encourage the use of folk songs, music, dances, legends, and kindred lore to help preserve the traditional expressions which reflect life as it has been lived in the United States and in other countries from which our people come. Florida Folk Festival helps develop a genuine appreciation of the universal similarity of folk traditions. The Festival includes the best examples of folk music, songs, dances, arts, crafts and regional foods.
Florida Folk Festival features hundreds of performers and attracts many thousands of spectators in four days.
Florida Folk Festival is a colorful, entertaing and educational event that grows with the years. It is recognized as the outstanding folk festival in the south. Many musicians, singers, singers, tale tellers, dance groups and soloists, craftsmen of native woods and foliage, and sellers of foods come every year and perform or sell their wares to the many who attend.
Florida Folk Festivals is like a country fair with a crafts and food midway, and the main show taking place on the amphitheater stage under shady, moss-draped trees and stars.
It is the place where old friends meet.
ACCOMMMODTIONS:
There are motels near White Springs on I-75 and SR 136; Lake City, 12 miles south; Jasper, 18 miles north; and Live Oak, 15 miles west, Write the above mentioned Chambers of Commerce for accommodations list.
CAMPING NEAR WHITE SPRINGS:
O'Leno State Park, 32 miles south of U.S. 41; Suwanne River State Park, 28 miles west on U.S. 90; Ocean Pond in Osceola National Forest, 30 miles east on U.S. 90.
FOODS:
Tempting regional foods such as chicken and dumplings; chicken pilau; fish & hushpuppies; smoked mullet; barbecue pork, beef dinners; fried chicken; collard greens and cracklin' cornbread; tacos, corn-on-cob; ham & sausage biscuits; boiled & parched peanuts; Indian fry bread; cake, pies, sassafras tea, will be served each day of the festival.
CRAFTS:
Many folk arts and crafts are featured such as: lye soap making, Appalachian broom making, quilting, carding, spinning, weaving, glass blowing, wood carving, basketry and other crafts are demonstrated, with products offered for sale. Also featured are Seminole Indian crafts, leather, shell, pottery, pine, & palmetto specialties, folk toys, sunbonnets, dolls, aprons, jellies, relishes, honey and many many other items.
