Statutes but that they should remain on there and be counted as Registered voters against the petition, notwithstanding, the Courts of the State has decreed otherwise. Mr Cassidey has also laid himself liable to dismissal, it seems to me, by [allowing] the copy of the [petition] to go into the hands of the Saloon people, as it was, without doubt turned over to the Times Union for publication for the purpose of getting signers to withdraw their names while the Board [sic] is refusing to act upon it, a veritable hold-up for the purposes of slaughter. We believe these things will warrant the dismissal of the guilty officers, whom are manifestly intent upon violating the law and disregarding the obligations that rest upon them as such, in the interests of the Saloons and partisans thereto encouraging immoral practices in municipal affairs to the detriment of the people at large. We have no hope whatever, with those officers in charge and if they are allowed to go un-rebuked we can have very little hope from higher Courts, to which we will be compelled to resort. I hope this matter will receive your attention at once so that something may be done before the 14th. of the Month at which time Cassidey is to make his report to the Commissioners: We do not want his report, we know now what that will be, or at least we have reason to believe it will be in favor of the "wets" Most respectfully Your Servant and Friend, J A Erwin
