Description

The transcript of a speech given by Florida Governor Reubin Askew on the steps of the Capitol (now the Old Capitol) in Tallahassee during "Florida Parades for the ERA" on April 14, 1975. Askew expresses his support for the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) and explains how it will benefit women in Florida. He shares a quote from suffragist Lucy Stone's address at the National Women's Rights Convention in 1855, and he declares that Florida's failure to ratify the 19th Amendment in 1920 is a "blemish" on the state's history.
