SINO-SOVIET PENETRATION PLAN
This is the first copy of UBAN NEWSWEEK released in the U.S.A.
It is intended to save reading-time to people who would want to keep a record-size sequence of developments in the neighbor republic.
By doing this in English, we might counter-balance the flow of Spanish copy, the saturation of broadcasts and even television programs in the interest of the great refugee colony.
Those people already know the evils of Castro. But there are countless numbers of Americans, living with the world’s most dangerous foe at their doorstep, who are still unaware of Cuba’s plight.
This plight is not a political problem of a foreign country. It is the dramatic subversion of Free World principles by enemy forces poised to strike again, elsewhere in the American Continent, from a beach-head ninety miles away from the American coast.
We are not quoting Kennedy. We are emphasizing his warning.
In a cold war, guns and rockets are of secondary importance to Communism. Propaganda, penetration and unity are their weapons.
Let’s fight them on their own grounds, with the same weapons.

WHAT ABOUT GITMO?
The U.S. Naval base at Guantanamo has become the powder keg of the Caribbean. If a climax comes, it may start there.
Last week Lawrence Thompson, MIAMI HERALD staff writer spent some time at the base and described it as “peaceful”, like a relaxed porcupine.
Bob Hope Zsa Zsa Gabor and other American entertainers also were there over New Year’s Celebration.
But there are tanks along the slope of one of the hills near the northeast gate, properly big Shermans, poised for action.
Big guns emplacements and machine gun nest are lined up along defensive areas, ready for Castro or Nicky.
But there is a very old Cuban adage that says: “all pigs know against what stump they rub their backs”
Fidel is no exception. He’d like to rub his against something softer than GITMO.
THE GUATEMALAN STORY
An article in THE NATION, New York’s nest winding up with the exposure of anti-Comminist
activity in Central America.
Paul Kennedy, of THE NEW TIMES SERVICE went one better and offered his readers details of intensive air training in a partly hidden airfield. Farther back from Retalhuleu, in the Guatemalan range, he says, commando-like forces are being drilled in guerrilla tactics by foreign personnel, mostly from the U.S.
Guatemalan President, Don Miguel Ydigoras Fuentes and responsible government officials insist that belligerent preparations are intended to ward off an invasion by Castro, which may come any day.
In Miami, Dr. Humberto Medrado, of the confiscated newspaper PRENSA LIBRE, wrote bitterly in the local DIARIO DE LAS AMERICANS condemning the exposure of these facts by pro-Western writers.
He says such newspaper reports follow the lines, almost word for word, of the accusations filed with the UNITED NATIONS by Raul Roa, the Foreign Relations Minister of Castro’s Communist regime.
To the Cuban reader, even to the American reader who knows the threat poised by Casto against continental freedom, the similarity of :the American press to that controlled by the detractors of this country, is felt like a knife in the back.”
CUBAN NEWSWEEK 3
RAY’S SABOTEURS SAFE
Sources close to Munuel Ray, defect Public Work Minister in the Castro regime, denied a broadcast by Cuba’s “Liberty Chain” that the entire cell of ten trained saboteurs in Ray’s group had been captured at the dairy farm La Luisa, eight miles east of Havana.
The Cuban broadcast lost no time in adding that detonators and explosives seized in the raid at La Luisa are of a new type used exclusively by the U.S. army.
EX-PRESIDENT PRIO
There are reports the ex-president Carlos Prio is seeking political asylum in the United States. He is now living in a closely guarded address in Fort Lauderdale.
More mysterious than his address has been his attitude until a few days ago. He has made several trips to Europe during the last 18 months and whenever and wherever interviewed by newsmen, Paris, Lisbon, Madrid, he lost no time defending the Castro regime.
In a Lisbon statement, he said, verbatim: “I cannot see the Communist leanings in either Fidel, Guevara nor Raul.” But at the time he said this, all of his cabinet members and most of his Cuban supporters had already abandoned their country under ruthless Communist persecution.
He may not have “seen” what every Cuban saw but what we don’t see now is why United States Immigration authorities should even listen to his plea or grant him a privilege that he doesn’t deserve.
ISLE OF PINES ESCAPEE?
Jorge Sotus Romero, the first man to win the rank of Captain in Castro’s army, has escaped from Isle of Pines Model Prison and is now in Miami. He was serving a 20-year sentence for conspiring against Castro.
The details of his escape are not yet known, but the Model Prison is practically escape-proof. Only one man, Carlos Duque Estrada, was able to escape since it was built thirty odd years ago. He managed to mingle with the visitors on a lucky Sunday afternoon and walked out undetected. He was captured later in Havana.
Isle of Pines becomes your second prison if you leave the penitentiary. To leave the island and get to the Cuban mainland is an accomplishment. If Sotus was flown out, maybe; but an ocean trip rounding Cape San Antonio and thence to Florida, we won't buy.
CUBAN NEWSWEEK 4
DISTINGUISHED VISITOR
Dr. Eduardo Elias Aparicio, Minister of Government and Police of Peru, made a brief stop at Miami en route to Lima this week. He had gone to New York for the New Year’s holidays.
He did not seem well posted on current events in his country. He said he did not know whether Peru would file a protest with the O.A.S. over subsidy given to the Peruvian Communist party by the Castro Embassy in Lima.
He would offer no comment on the breach of relations between Peru and Cuba although this came in the wake of official evidence that the Cuban Embassy was in close contact with Peruvian Communist leaders.
DANCING IN THE RAIN?
Arriving late at the Cuban Capital for one of his Communist lectures, Father Lence, the left-wing Catholic Priest that Castro is using to split the Church, excused himself by explaining that he had stopped his car, on the way to the Capital to congratulate a couple of militia girls on sentry duty under the rain.
This brings a recollection of a one year suspension imposed upon Father Lence by his Parish in Oriente province, on a charge of immoral conduct. Or was it for “congratulating” girls on a rainy night?
CUBANS WRITE CANADIAN MINISTER
Exile Cuban business leaders and industrialists, robbed of their businesses and factories by Communism, have written Canadian Commerce Minister George Hees protesting Canada’s collaboration with the Communists.
“Nowhere can be found better businessmen to deal with” Hees is quoted as saying. “The Cubans are great customers and I would be quite happy to sell the $150,000,000 in Canadian goods this year.”
“It is possible,” - Cubans leaders wrote - “that you do not realize because you lack adequate information, that you are not dealing with regular businessmen but with representatives of Communism who receive their orders from Peiping and Moscow.”
“They want to deal with you now because the U.S. decreed a voluntary trade embargo when Cuba was definitely situated in the Communist camp. They are merely gaining time until their supplies can come from Iron Curtain Countries, thus whatever benefit Canada is to decisive from such dealings will be anything but permanent.”
CUBAN NEWSWEEK 5
BONAFEDE’S REPORT
Another American journalist to visit Communist Cube in the past week was Don Bonafede, also a HERALD writer.
In Havana, he talked with the underground regarding growing speculation on Castro’s probable assassination. “This would not be too difficult,” undergroundmen said. “But it would be followed by a bloodbath in all six provinces unless Raul and Guevara die at the same time and this would not be so easy.”
Bonafede writes that the people toward the following disintegrating factors in the near future: 1) Mass defection by Fidel’s offices and soldiers: 2) The mounting crisis between Fidel and the Catholic Church and, 3) Spreading sabotage and economic chaos.
THE SUGAR OUTLOOK
In a frenzied speech, Castro warned sugar producers that he will ruin those who try to profit from Cuba’s U.S. market exclusion and said he will be ready to dump large quantities of low cost sugar into the world market to bring on a price war.
He was encouraged by a Soviet notice that Iron Curtain countries would absorb the tonnage left on hand by the U.S. boycott. Russia and the satellite countries will pay 4 (?) per pound.
Meanwhile, large areas of caneland have been razed by the underground torch in Camaguey and Las Villas provinces where the mills were not yet ready to handle emergency grinding.
Burned sugar cane must reach the mill quickly to prevent its total loss.
The wages of 500,000 men are geared to production costs of more than (?) a pound and sales to Iron Curtain and world market buyers have been transacted under the 3.25 (?) level.
Castro is beginning to feel the blunt of the U.S. quota loss with indications that the more sugar the more he will lose.
Food stores don’t accept guns and ammo in payment of food.
THE CHURCH
Rapidly drawing nearer to open war with Catholic Church, Castro has challenged the Vatican to ex-communicate him and the
CUBAN NEWSWEEK 6
ENTIRE PEOPLE OF Cuba if the Rev. Father Lence (see page5) is excommunicated. Father Lence and three other prelates are now suspended by the Catholic hierarchy for disrupting Catholic unity in the island.
Father Lence, ardent defender of Castro, refuses to join the Catholic hierarchy’s opposition.
ILA’S BOYCOTT
While U.S. and Canadian firms still trading with Castro have been placed on a Black List by the Association for the Reconstruction of Cuban Economy, the International Longshoremen's Association is backing the Cuban move for freedom.
The German freighter LICIANA, with a heavy cargo of the Cuban produce and fruit, was the first warning to Castro that cargoes to and from Cuba will not be handled.
In Miami, $14,000,000 worth of Cuban pineapples are rotting alongside dock.
In Canada, the division of ILA announced they will follow the order of Bill Bradley, head of the International Longshoremen Association.
ECUADOR IS U.S. FRIEND
In Quito, Ecuador, President Jose Velasco Ibarra offered his country’s assurances that Ecuador will not swing toward the Communist camp regardless of recent anti-American demonstrations in that country.
Demonstrations, touched off by the U.S. refusal to back Ecuador in a border with Peru, appear to have been instigated by per-Castro elements working undercover in all Latin American republics.
Result: Pro-Communist Minister of the Interior, Manuel Araujo, was ousted from the cabinet.
IGNACY LOGA SOWINSKY
This man, a Polish official in Mexico, is in close contact there with pro-Communist ex-president Lazaro Cardenas.
In a public statement recently, Loga Sowinsky said: “There is no danger of Soviet intervention in Cuba. Every country has a right to determine where it will seek foreign aid.” “Poland,” he said, “has always been opposed to intervention.” ( No comment).
CUBAN NEWSWEEK 7
INSIGHT ON CUBA
The Cuban Christmas week was a prelude to terror and violence. It brought a gruesome sequence of tragic events.
Days of murder and mourning, as black and as red as the symbolic colors of the castro flag, came in a new setting of miserable heresy.
A booklet just released by the Ministry of Labor compared the advenement of Jesus with the seizure of power by Fidel in Cuba!
Jesus, who died at the Cross preaching love and peace, was being compared with an atheist gangster preaching hatred and war.
At the beginning of the week nine militiamen and a group of farmers uprose against Castro in Corralillo, Matanzas province. Heretofore known as “THE QUIET PROVINCE”, Matanzas was giving proof of a national rebellion rapidly spreading in Cuba.
Officially, this information was suppressed at first until the government issued its first communique stating that one militiaman, Samuel Fernandez Alvarez has been killed and fifteen others wounded.
This small but heroic group of patriots was led by Benito Campos, a young Captain famous for his marksmanship in his home town, Quemado de Guines.
At the western end of Cuba there was another uprising by men who did not speak English, chewed gum nor drank whisky. They could not be presented as “expeditionaries paid by Yankee Imperialism.”
A whole family of Cuban farmers, 14 men and a woman in all, took to the western hills under command of Capy. Clodomiro Miranda, a young member of the family, who had been in command of the military outpost in Cubans, Pinar del Rio province.
Fighting against odds of ten to one, Capt. Miranda displayed incredible courage. He succeeded three times in breaking through an encirclement by Communist troops. Eventually, after 11 days of guerrilla fighting, food and ammunition ran out. They surrendered on the morning of Dec. 8th when Miranda was wounded and his brother killed.
The next gruesome incident preluding the Christmas holidays was the frustrated hi-jacking of a Cuban airliner by five men and one woman who boarded a cienfuegos bound plane at Havana.
Pistols barked in the clouds again and one of the patriots, Ramiro Rodriguez Vera, lay dead in the isle of the plane while the pilot, Capt. Francisco Martinez Malo, sat dying in the control seat. Martinez crashed-landed at Cienfuegos airport and all but one were captured wounded.

INSIGHT UN CUBA (cont’d)
Eight hours later, a quickly assembled kangaroo court dealt out death penalties for Enildo Moreno Bacallao and his brother Eloy, Cesar Villareal and Raul Quian. The woman, Caridad Torrado Torres, 30, was sentenced to thirty years.
They were executed the same night. But strange enough, six men instead of four were hered to the execution grounds in Las Villas. Castro personally ordered that Rafael Brunet Lugones and Oscar Pedrosa, suspected of the slaying of Major Manuel Fajardo during an ambush by patriots, be lined up against the wall with the ill-fated plane passengers.
The escape in the hi-jacking group was captured critically wounded two dats later and he too, went to the wall that night:
All of the horrors narrated in these pages of CUBAN NEWSWEEK comprise a correlation of facts, names, dates and figures admitted officially by the Cuban Communist government, although considerably after the information was in the hands of the AMERICAN LEAGUE FOR FREEDOM.

CUBAN NEWSWEEK Regrets the necessity of cutting down our copy on current events in Cuba to make room for “OPERATION AMERIKA” in this, our first edition.
The following report, a bold outspoken exposure of Communist penetration plans in Latin America, is being mailed to all members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee; the Un-American Activities Sub-Committee and scores of Pro-Western writers and newspaper editors as a contribution of the CUBAN AMERICAN LEAGUE FOR FREEDOM to the Cause of the FREE WORLD.
Before beginning, let us express our gratitude to our friends in Cleveland, Ohio, who have made our LEAGUE a reality and are helping us on this cold war battle propaganda.

CUBAN NEWSWEEK 9
Giving American newspaper and magazine editors, broadcasting stations and television channels in all major cities, an insight on the movement of World Communism in this hemisphere.
All are welcome to quote, excerpt or reproduce our work in whole or in part. ALL are welcome as members of this great movement of THE CUBAN AMERICAN LEAGUE FOR FREEDOM.
PART I
Eight years ago we visited this country with Ernesto de la Fe, an anti-Communist leader of continental stature, to conduct a series of lectures, radio and television appearances.
At that time, my son was fighting the Communists with the U.S. Army in Korea.
De la Fe is now serving 20 years at the Model Prison in Isle of Pines. He was led to believe, like six million Cubans, that Castro was the top figure in a democratic revolution. He had helped some of Castro’s underground men porsected Batista. Naturally, he could not conceive that he would be among the first to be arrested after the “democratic boys” came down from the hills.
I was less unfortunate because I was much more skeptical. I was able to sense a rattler in the grass since childhood. Hence, I am able to dedicate every minute of my time and every day of my life to contribute my grain of sand in the fight of the Free World.
There is no question but what the apathy of Free World leaders is being used to advantage by International Communism. Castro has lost no time either.
Those clear-thinking men in Cuba who would not see the ominous signs of Communism, those who clung hopelessly onto nothing, even those who contributed millions to the Castro “victory”, have since arrived at Miami’s International Airport with five dollars in their pocket.
Yet the onslaught against the economy and the capitalist classes of the country was evident from the beginning!
Those industrialists and businessmen who waited until the last minute to save their sinking ships, thinking, perhaps, that their neighbors' plight would never be their own, have arrived at Key West in tow of American coastguards, hungry, thirsty, blistered and broke.
Two precious years have elapsed and the whole of Latin America is now threatened by an intricate network of penetration and subversion by the same forces of enslavement. The Kremlin’s plans of domination, through Castro’s Cuba, begin with the separation of Latin America from the United State,
After that, the U.S. is next in line.
CUBAN NEWSWEEK 10
PART II
The four basic objectives of Communist domination have now been achieved completely in Cuba. They are:
(1)Elimination of the capitalistic class.
(2)Abolishment of free enterprise.
(3)Elimination of the middle class, (and)
(4)Enslavement of the working masses.
In only 24 months, he has destroyed every Democrativ liberty in the country; he has achieved absolute control of the nation’s sources of wealth and he converted Cuban Communists into fanatics and in=gnorant Cubans into indoctrinated Communists.
Deputies of the National Institute of Agrarian Reform, which holds unparalleled control of the country’s financial affairs, have prayed upon sugar mills, cane plantations, cattle ranches, fishing fleets, packing houses, banks, railroads, airlines and even private dwelling and apartment houses.
The scant groups who invoked their civil rights to a beared rifle-totting gorila that served the confiscation notice, are now in labor camps and penitentiaries convicted of “counter-revolution aries.”
The procedure explains why, in the first ten months of Castroism - by March 1960 to be exact, the Communists had confiscated 5.422,900 hectares of land and held control of 109 major industries with a value of $235,000,000.
At the time the National Institute of Agrarian Reform (INRA), owned 2,400 “People’s Stores” which were quickly putting Cuban merchants out of business through onerous regulations and unfair competition. 500 sugar plantation “co-operatives” were rapidly eliminating the independent cane planter from sugar industry.
The seafood industry came next. Fishing fleets were confiscated, freezers and packing houses mecame INRA property overnight and individual fishermen ordered to form State-controlled co-operatives so that Castro would have another source of U.S. Dollars through seafood exports of over $4,000,000 a year.
The island of Cuba. in two short years, has become a potential Soviet satellite of tremendous geographical importance to the sinister plans penetration of World Communism.
Part III
In those two short years a fabulous system of indoctrination, penetration and espionage has been built-up by Castro under rigid Sino-Soviet guidance and surveillance.
In those two short years, too, he has squandered Cuba’s Dollar Reserves in an incredible armament build--up unmatched by any nation
PART III (cont’d)
in the Western Hemisphere, with the exception of the U.S.
He has converted the youth of the country into a hugh, undisciplined, haphazard clan of automatic rifle toters and keeps them tuned up to the chant of “liberty” - “sacrifice” “Fatherland of death” hoping, perhaps, that someday these battalions of young, inexperienced boys and girls, will make a suicidal stand against combat-trained liberation troops,
Most of these youngsters have joined the Cuban militia to hold their jobs somewhere in Cuba, others have joined to ward off the possibility of reprisals. The ones who joined as a result of constant indoctrination and brainwashing are now beginning to realize that life under Fidel ia an accumulation of hardships and duty and, in consequence, their willingness to die for him dwindles as hardships and duty increase from day to day.
Castro is achieving control of the human mind in Cuba by methods identical to those of Soviet Russia.
Salient factors of mind control are: 1) Indoctrination; 2) Newsreels; 3) Universities; 4) The printing industry; 5) Television; 6) Broadcasting stations and 7) The Cuban press.
Cultural centers under Communist control include the Journalists Association; the Naturanal Radio Announcers Association; the Cuban Artists Association and indoctrinated school teachers and student body.
Part IV
Latin America’s Outlook
There is not doubt now, in anyone’s mind, that Castro’s objective as dictated by the Kremlin is the propagation of the Communist way of life throughout the American continent,
This is a vital objective in the kremlin plan of sum conservatively estimated at no less than NINE MILLION DOLLARS.
The present flow of Communist copy into Latin America is not only copious but unending.
Since January 1959, Communist propaganda amongst the youth of Latin America has been greatly increased by Moscow and Peiping. In achieving this, both the governments have taken advantage of camouflaged Communist organizations such as the World Peace Council, the World Association of Foreign Trade, the International Association of Democratic Women and other “front” groups travelling through Latin America on generous junket money from Castro.
All of these organizations have been instructed to make their
CUBAN NEWSWEEK 12
PART IV (cont’d)
play in zones that have been known to be favorable to “co-existence”. These zones will be found mostly in pro-western counties. It will be important to win them over because of their value to serve the objectives of Communism in the Western Hemisphere.
Before the end of 1960, a tactical agreement was signed between Moscow and Red China giving the latter country full chargers of political propaganda in Latin America. Immediately afterward, Red China sent out a delegation of their youth to Chile, which made contact with the Chilean Students and workers Movement in that Latin American country.
The Chinese invited Chilean delegations of the extreme radical groups to pay a return visit to Peiping and from thereon, the Institute of Promotion of Cultural Relations between Red China and Chile continued to spread its influence amongst the younger generations of Latin America by means of tons of booklets, magazines and anti-American indoctrination.
Until two years ago, Uruguay was the gateway to Communism in Latin America, Simply because the broad mental attitude of that country toward Democracy, permitted the agents of World Communism complete freedom of movement there. Since Castro assumed power in Cuba, however, a more promising land and a larger territory, the Republic of Cuba, became the new gateway to Communism in Latin America.
Castro’s obvious relations with the Soviet government is not the only reason for this change. Fidel, personally, is not a talented Communist. His ideas can thrive, only, under chaotic revolutionary special alliance has come to life between Castro and Sino-Sovie bloc, making Havana the distribution point of diplomatic valises that contain fabulous propaganda material from all three countries.
The bundles are simply sent out as “diplomatic mail” to the Cuban Embassies in Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Panama and, until recently, Costa Rica and Peru.
But a much more important penetration play is going on by means of exchange of juvenile delegations.
In 1960, no less than 500 Chilean boys and girls visited Havana as guests of the Cuban government. They were lavishly lodged at the Hilton, the Capri and the Riviera, and attended the so called WORLD YOUTH CONGRESS.
Those groups later joined Cuba Juvenile Groups in “Volunteer Labor Camps”, the centers of indoctrination of World Communism. In a reciprocal move, leaders of the Cuban Juvenile Movement paid a return visit to Chile, Amongst them were members of the “26th of July Movement”
CUBAN NEWSWEEK 13
Another camouflaged Communist organization has been able to make successful plays in Latin America because of the unlimited funds appropriated for that purpose. This is the WORLD YOUTH ASSOCIATION.
Scores of new enrollments were made in Havana during the celebration of the First Congress of Latin American Youth. New members came from the Cuba High School Students’ Association, the Association of Lower School Students, the Cuban Night School Students’ Association and the Juvenile Sections of miners and textile workers unions.
The World Youth Association maintains :Volunteer Labor Camps” in several countries, including Cuba’s Sierra Maestra. It was there and unclear their sponsorship that the Sino-Soviet bloc has created a “School Town” where juvenile groups are subjected to physical labor fervorous indoctrination.
The Communist brain-trust believes that in those camps, the upong, ignorant makes his first contact with the highly indoctrinated comrades specializing in Party Propaganda and such a cunning method of captivating future party workers is something not to be taken too lightly by the Free World.
In Havana, last year, it was agreed to hold the next World Youth Congress in Santiago de Chile. That area is a promise of strong magnetism for the intellectuals who follow the lines of the theoretical camp of Communism and for whom, perhaps, the red-hot atmosphere of Communism they found in Havana may not have been too readily acceptable,
Cuba’s role in the furtherance of a Communist way of life all over Latin America is unquestionably preponderant. The World Youth Association has now decided to print its official publication entitled WORLD YOUTH, in the cuban National Press, which is one of the confiscated ant-Communist newspapers in Havana.
Another camouflaged Communist organization that is conducting successful campaigns of penetration in Latin America is the International Organization of Students.
Their next congress will not be held at Havana, but rather in Bagdad. However, a resolution was approved ordering the establishment of “secretarates” in every Latin American country beginning with Cuba. Invitations to the Bagdad congress were distributed in Havana, amongst students of Argentina, Cuba, Venezuela, Peru, Mexico, Ecuador, Chile and a few more Central America.
They are making their play through scholarships granted to the student leaders of Latin America. Chile, for instance, received 50 scholarships this year instead of the 30 formerly allocated to that country.
CUBAN NEWSWEEK 14
PART IV (cont’d)
The scholarships are valid from one to six semesters and are for the Universities of Leipzig and Prague. Moreover, heretofore, these scholarships were granted only to students who were members of the Communist party or to activists of the party. Now, applications from the bourgeois camp are receiving preference.
World Communism has its eyes and ears trained on the cultural circles of Latin America because the desire of youth to travel, to acquire experience, to see the world, in addition to its harmless idealism, are factors of advantage to World Communism in pursuing its revolutionary and imperialistic goals.
Another advantageous factor is Castro’s strong bid for newspapers and radio support in Latin America. This is a well organized operation at a cost of millions of dollars.
Yet, this is something that has not yet become fully known to Americans, any more than his real purpose during the revolution became known to the non-Communist Cubans.
Through the Communist Party in major cities of South America or through his Cuban Embassies, unprincipled editors and broadcasting enterprises are being generously subsidized to carry dispatches of PRENSA LATINA, which is Castro’s press agency.
In the U.S., part of this fabulous propaganda fund is finding its way into American medis of divulgation. Everybody has seen the press releases of the FAIR PLAY FOR CUBA COMMITTEE, headed by two “AMERICANS” who are on record as defenders of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg but neither of them moved one finger to save Bobby Fuller from a firing squad.
Again, from time to time, American public opinion receives the shocking impact of a confusing television show that has all the earmarks of a PRENSA LATINA production.
Part V.
Recently, in Birmingham, Alabama, a prominent, wide-awake radio executive told a banquet audience of 500 meb that “we were losing now,” he added, “we might as well prepare to turen the whole of Latin America over to the Communist camp.”
That clear-headed thinker, talking in terms of “let's get America moving again, is Mr. Lionel F. Baxter, Vice-President of the Storer Broadcasting Company. His words were an inspiration to CUBAN NEWSWEEK and the founder of the CUBAN AMERICAN LEAGUE FOR FREEDOM.
Too many Americans are living in apathetic unawareness of what is really going on in their hemisphere. And too many Democratic liberties are being used, with Democratic impunity, as penetration weapons
CUBAN NEWSWEEK 15
Part V (cont’d)
Of World Communism. Under such liberties and prerogatives the Castro agents pursue their malevolous objectives in this great, free country. They create racial and social disturbances, they confuse public opinion and indoctrinate the ignorant and inespriened mind.
They can even hide behind a V Amendment and organize a FAIR PLAY FOR CUBA COMMITTEE with the top echelon of America’s Communist Party out in front!
I would just like to see a Democrat organize a PRO-IKE COMMITTEE in Havana or publish one copy of CUBAN NEWSWEEK and live to talk about it.
Unquestionably, the forces of enslavement living under a Democracy can use the Prerogatives of such a Democracy to undermine the Democratic way of life.
There are factories in the Miami area where weekly collections in Dollars are gathered for Castro. Other sources of employment give preference to pro-Castro workers. There are union bosses who decorate their office wall with a photo of Castro. There are fine homes in which the effigies of Raul, Fidel and Che have been embossed on the children’s drinking cups.
There are agents of the Cuban G-2, (the dreadful Gestapo of Castro's Cuba), making frequent trips between Havana and Miami and sometimes their luggage is not even inspected.
Democrats of America, men and women of this great Free World, please answer this question:
WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE?
In this issue of CUBAN NEWSWEEK, the Cuban AMERICAN LEAGUE FOR FREEDOM has contributed its findings, experience and efforts to a comprehensive, factual report on the sinister aims of COMMUNISM. Dear Sir:
In accordance with your favor of the 6th inst., we are enclosing one copy of CUBAN NEWSWEEK which we thank you to pass on to Mr. Bryant.
Our movement, in its infancy, has the moral support of a group of very distinguished Cubans and Americans. It is a movement to check and expose conditions that made possible the enslavement of Uncle Sam’s best friend and neighbor. T is a movement to bring the liberation of a friendly country and promote hemispheric solidarity in defending and preserving a Democratic way of life. Our first bulletin will best tell you of our work.
Yours very truly.
