Description
Testimony of Dr. Annette Goins Shakir about her father, Arnett Goins, and his experiences after surviving the Rosewood massacre. Dr. Shakir grew up in Lacoochee, Florida along with the children of other survivors of the massacre. She speaks about the economic opportunities the Goins family lost because of the massacre and the long-term, psychological impact the event had on her father. Dr. Shakir recalls how she knew very little about her father's experience in Rosewood until the broadcasting of the 60 Minutes special on the Rosewood massacre which aired in the early 1980s. Dr. Shakir describes the generalized fear and anxiety expressed by her father because of his experience in the Rosewood massacre and how that experience impacted her own childhood. James Peters, Assistant Attorney General of the state of Florida, cross examines Dr. Shakir.
