a glimpse into Zorayda Castle
SACRED CAT RUG:
Over 2300 years old. It was found in the casket of a mummy in the Valley of the Kings along the Nile river, and brought to America by a famous Egyptian collector and has been exhibited at several expositions. The rug is made from the hair of prehistoric cats that roamed the Nile. These cats grew to a length of four feet and were worshipped by the Egyptians. The rug was embalmed with the mummy and is said to possess a curse.
MUMMY'S FOOT:
Part of the mummy that was wrapped in the cat rug. The foot was broken off and stolen for the jewels that were on the ankle and toes.
HALL OF JUSTICE:
Its walls are of crushed molded alabaster and its panels of Sandalwood from Tangiers. The hanging balconies depicted here
were used by witnesses at trials.
COURT OF LIONS:
With Moorish arches showing the Alhambresque tracery. The tiles on the floor were brought from Valencia, Spain. The walls of the vestibule are covered with priceless mosaic tiles brought from the Mosque Sultan Saleem of Egypt, which was built in the twelfth century.
MOORISH ARCH:
The Moors, who were migrating warlike tribes, were noted especially for their cavalry tactics. Their shields, lances and battle axes are mounted on Moroccan leather in the Horse Shoe Arch.
ZORAYDA TOWER:
What is the secret that lies behind the door of the Tower of the Princesses???

Within its Mosaic walls are some of the world’s most unusual and intriguing collections of art treasures. Built in 1883, this remarkable structure now houses the lifetime collection of rarities of the late A. S. Mussallem, noted art authority. The castle itself presents an attraction to be seen nowhere in the world. Its architecture and interior decorations take us back to the palaces and luxuries that have served as countless inspirations to mankind.
Fabulous! Beautiful treasures in an Exotic Moorish Castle
