General Note
José Luis Avellanal lived in Ybor City, Florida. He was a well-known figure in the Tampa area, residing for many years at the El Pasaje Hotel. Avellanal trained in medicine in Cuba, and claimed to practice gynecology and plastic surgery. He also published articles on cryogenics and the resurrection of the dead. Later in his life, Avellanal claimed an honorary rank of Lieutenant General in the Mexican Army and frequently appeared at public events in Ybor City in full dress uniform. His campaign for Florida Senate was not successful.

Dr. J. L. Avellanal is a Physician and Surgeon, Doctor of Philosophy and Attorney, admitted to Practice in the U.S. Supreme Court, Court of Appeals of the District of Columbia, U. S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans, Supreme Court of Georgia, and seven other U. S. Courts. Speaks and writes perfectly Spanish and English, Prominent in Masonry: a Past Master, Ex-Minister of State of Havana Consistory, Shriner of Mecca Temple, N. Y. (Mother Temple of all Shrine Temples), Knight Templar of Columbian Commandery No. 1, N. Y., and Sovereign Grand Inspector General of the 33rd DEGREE OF MASONRY.
Due to being in litigation all his life he is now well qualified as a fighter to defend the people's rights.
