Born July 10, 1875 in Mayesville, SC to Samuel and Patsy McLeod, one of 17 children. Educated in a Presbyterian mission school, Scotia Seminary, and Moody Bible Institute. Ca. 1895 went to Palatka to teach. Met and married Albertus Bethune, 1897. Mary and son Albert moved to Daytona ca. 1899 where she opened a cabin school located on a dump site. $5 down and $5 a month. Merged with the Cookman School for boys of Jackson in 1923 and died in May 1955.
