The Saturn V, America's moon rocket, is capable of launching more than a quarter of a million pounds into Earth orbit. The total orbiting tonnage in the lunar mission is about 280,000 pounds, including the weight of the third stage and instrument unit section. Fully fueled and loaded for its lunar mission, the Apollo spacecraft weighs about 95,000 pounds.
The Apollo 8 mission took place between December 21 (launch) and December 27 (landing) 1968. The astronauts were Frank Borman, Commander; William A. Anders, Lunar Module Pilot; and James A. Lovell, Jr., Command Module Pilot.
