Glade Cross Mission
From: Florida Board of Parks and Historic Memorials, Public relations and historical files, 1934-1964 (Series S 1951)
The Glade Cross Mission was established in 1898 at Boat Landing in the Everglades by Bishop William Crane Gray. The Mission headquarters was later moved to the city of Everglades. The Mission served as a gathering place for Seminoles in the area. Many Seminoles were employed on farms, in logging camps and sawmills, and on state roads and surveying crews. For those who did not work in these industries, the sale of craft items at the Mission was an important source of income.
