This indenture made and entered into this sixth day April One Thousand eight hundred and sixty seven between Mrs. J. J. Alexander of the County of Jefferson, State of Florida of the first part and Isaac Taylor and Ben Gibbes (Freedman) of the same country and state aforesaid of the second part. Whereas on or about the [paper torn] day of the Feb[ruary] last, the aforenamed parties agreed to enter into written articles of agreement relative to the land of the plantation herein named and it being the intention and desire of the said factors to carry out the terms of the said agreement as then made, they do hereby agree to the conditions herein specific to commence from the time the parties made their oral agreement and to continue during the present year, 1867. This Indenture therefore witnesseth - That the said Mrs. J. J. Alexander, the party of the first part doth hereby covenant and agree to give for the purpose of cultivating in Cotton for the space of one year to the said parties of the second part, the land known as the “Gaillan Lot” comprising ten acres more or less without hindrance or interference. And the said parties of the second part, Isaac Taylor and Ben Gibbes, doth hereby covenant and agree that they will purposely plough and plant all of the said land in Cotton at their own expense and see that the same is purposely attended to, and harvested at [paper torn] proper season and in consideration of the use of said land, he furthermore covenant and agrees to give to the said party of the first part the one third (⅓) portion of the crop. And in consideration of the foregoing, and with the intention and desire to assure and secure unto the said party of the first part, the payment of the aforesaid seed at the time the same shall become due, the said party of the second part doth hereby covenant and agrees that no part of the seed
