State of Florida Jefferson County Agreement made and entered into this the 14th day of January, eighteen hundred and sixty- seven, between William H. Banks employer of the first part and Joseph Chisholm freed man of the second part. Witnesseth That the said Joseph Chisholm has this day, bind himself to the aforesaid William H. Banks, from this date to the twenty fifth day of December next, to work on said Banks Plantation in the capacity of carpenter. The said Joseph Chisholm promises and binds himself to be respectful and obedient to said Banks, his employer, and also to Mr Gamble, Banks’ agent, and to at all times obey their orders. The said Joseph Chisholm promises and binds himself not to leave his work or the plantation without authority from either his employer or Mr Gamble, Sundays excepted. Should the said Banks wish the said Chisholm to do any work on his other place, the said Chisholm agrees to go and do it. His time all the said Banks. The aforesaid Banks promises and agrees to pay or cause to be [paid] unto the said Joseph Chisholm on or before the first day of January, eighteen hundred and sixty-eight, at the rate of twenty five dollars per month, and to furnish said Chisholm rations and a house to live in. In case of disobedience of orders or improper conduct on the part of the aforesaid Chisholm, the said Banks shall have full power to discharge said Chisholm.
