This agreement made and entered into this the seventh day of January one thousand eight hundred and sixty seven between G.W. Hampton of the County of Jefferson and State of Florida of the first part and Keziah Martin, a freed woman, of the second part. Witnesseth that the said G.W. Hampton of the first part doth agree to hire the said party of the second part for the year of 1867 and promises to give her fifty dollars in money to be paid in the currency of the country and one third of the cotton made on the small patch to be planted near the house. The said party of the second part agreeing to do all kinds of house work usually required of house servants and to help cultivate the said cotton patch and garden and all kinds of work required of her. And she further agrees to let her small daughter Louisa work as a house servant for her victuals and clothes. And the said party of the first promises to feed the said part of the second part and her two small children. And the said party of the second party promises to lose no time unnecessarily without the permission of the said party of the first part. And should any difficulty rise between the parties in regard to the contract each party shall have the privilege of choosing one disinterested and responsible citizen who shall go before the Agent of Bureau and who with the Agent of Bureau shall form a board to adjust such difficulty who award shall be final and conclusive.
