State of Fla. County of Jefferson Office S.A. Com. B.R.F. & A.L. Monticello, Fla, June 20th, 1867 Satisfactory evidence having been shown me that Amanda Falkner, a colored girl, twelve years old, is an orphan, father & mother both being dead, and that said Amanda Falkner has no legal protector. Now therefore she is bound over to H. S. Linton Jr. until the first day of October (1872) one thousand eight hundred and seventy two, or until the said Amanda Falkner shall be married if that occurs sooner than above date. The following stipulations are to be complied with by both parties, 1st, the said Linton is to feed & clothe, comfortably and decently, & to give or cause to be given to said Amanda, a common education, reading, writing & arithmetic, and at the termination of this agreement he shall give the said Amanda two pairs of shoes new, two suits of ordinary decent clothing new, and a new blanket, and during the whole time that she remains in his service or under his guardianship, he is to treat her kindly & humanely.
