State of Florida Jefferson County This agreement entered into this the 30th day of March 1867 between J.M. & W.P. Marvin, Merchants in the town of Monticello, state & county aforesaid, of the first part, and Thomas Harris, Peyton Pleasants, Wm. Marks, Simon Harris, Peggy Harris and Matilda Bryant, (Freedmen) who are working together on a plantation belonging to J.P. Andrews, of the second part. Witnesseth that the said J.M. & W.P. Marvin has agreed to open accounts with & furnish supplies of mdse to the said parties of the second part during the current year. They also agree to furnish Thomas Harris, who acts as Foreman on the place, a book containing the accounts of each of the parties & also an amount of such supplies, including bagging & rope as may be needed for the plantation. 2nd, the said parties of the second part agree in consideration of the above, and to secure the full payment of all such advances made to them by J.M. & W.P. Marvin, that they find themselves individually and collectively, each for the others, to pay all said advances out of their growing crop of cotton, and that said claims for advances shall be considered a first lien on their portion of the crops of cotton. They also agree to deliver said cotton as soon as picked & ginned & sell it to said J.M. & W.P. Marvin, or have it shipped by them for sale on a/c of said parties of second part, either in Savannah or New York as they may think but in case of the death of either of the parties of the second part, the survivors are bound & agree to see that the debts or amounts of deceased are paid to said J.M. & W.P. Marvin.
