State of Florida Jefferson County This agreement made and entered into this 13th day of February 1867 between John B. McCall of the 1st part and the following named freedmen and freedwomen of the second part all of the State and County aforesaid, namely Peter Glen [and] Delia Leonard. Witnesseth-That the said party of the second part for the consideration hereinafter mentioned doth covenant and agree individually that they will labor upon the plantation now owned by the party of the first part, from the 1st day of January 1867 and the 25th day of December 1867. That during said time they will to the best of their knowledge, skill and ability, well and faithfully serve the party of the first part performing the customary labors of a plantation laborer, such as tilling the soil, fencing, repairing, and building houses, preparing the crop for market, taking care of stock and doing any and every thing they are called upon to do by the party of the 1st part. That they will labor from daylight until dusk with the customary allowance of time for breakfast and dinner. That they, the said party of the second part, will not purloin to the detriment of the party of the first part any tools, stock, or property of any description from the plantation above named or entrusted to their care. And it is further agreed that all time lost by the party of the second part shall be deducted from his or her wages at the rate of seventy five cents per day for all such lost time. And [whenever] the party of the first part shall be absent from the plantation the party of the second part will yield the same obedience and respect to his agent, superintendent or representative as would be due to the party of the first part himself where he is actually present and directing their labor. In case of the violation of these articles or any of them without good and sufficient cause the party of second part so offending shall be discharged from the plantation above named and forfeit so much of his or her wages due him or her at the time as a board of arbitration may determine.
