January 7th 1867 This agreement entered into this the 7th day of January A.D. 1867 between Alfred Raysor on the one part and the following named laborers on the second part to wit: Aiken McPherson, Prince Blake, York McPherson, Henry May, William Hames, Charles Williams, Benjamin Logan, Samuel Moore, Caldwell Nathans, Harret Moore & Martha Moore. I Alfred Raysor bind myself to pay unto the said laborers one third of the entire crop raised by them; including one third of the meat hogs raised on the place this year. To furnish team and all necessary farming tools to carry on said farm at my own expense. The farming interest subject to my orders at all times. I give them a field to be divided among them for their wives & children to work, each family to have a patch in this field. The privilege of grinding on the place free of toll. We the undersigned and before named laborers bind each ourselves faithfully to work on the said Alfred Raysor’s farm in the capacity of plantation hands. We grant to him the privilege of conducting the farm after his own way and we will work by and under his orders. All loss of time to be accounted for to him and to each other. We bind ourselves to keep good and orderly houses while on his place. And for such services we are willing to

receive one third of the entire crop raised on the place the present year. Any violation of the contract subjects the offender to discharge from the plantation with forfeiture of so much that may be deducted for their labor as a board of arbitration shall determine, and all differences not mutually settled to be submitted to a board of arbitration composed of two reliable citizens and the agent of the B.R.F. & A.L. whose decision shall be final.
