January 7, 1867 This agreement entered into the 7th day of January A.D. 1867 between George Raysor on the one part and the following named Laborers of the second part, to wit, Ned Acerman, Hezekiah Durkins, Daniel Jestus, Frank Gettus. I, George Raysor, bind myself to pay unto said Laborers one third of the entire crops raised by them, including one third of the meat hogs raised on the place this year. To furnish team and necessary farming tools to work on the farm at my own expense. The farming interests subject to my orders at all times. I will also allow them patches around their houses for their wives, mothers, and children to work gratuitously. The privilege of grinding allowed. We the undersigned and before named Laborers bind each ourselves faithfully to work on said George Raysor’s farm in the capacity of plantation hands. We grant to him the privilege of conducting the farm after his own way and we will work by his orders. And all loss of time to be accounted to him and to each other. We bind ourselves to keep good and orderly houses while on his place. And for such service we are willing to receive one third of the crop raised. Any violation of the contract subjects the offender discharge and forfeiture of so much of what may be due him as a board of arbitration shall determine. [Crossed out version of previous sentence: Any violation of the contract subjects the offender to all loss of land, all interest in the crop and dislodgement from the plantation.] And all differences not mutually settled to be submitted to a board of arbitration
