State of Georgia Thomas County This agreement made this the 12th day of January in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and sixty seven between John Young of the one part and the freedman whose names are hereunto annexed of the second part. Witnesseth that the said freedman of the second part agree to work as laborers with and for the said Young from this date until the end of the year 1867, subject to his orders at all times to do and perform any work he may require of them belonging to the farm, to go and be at work by sunrise and work until sundown, and to take only as much time at noon as the said Young may think proper, and will further agree to be respectful and obedient to the said Young and family, and not to leave the farm without the consent of said Young, and to pay him one dollar per day for every day taken by us without his consent, said money to be divided same as the crops, and to pay him for everything destroyed by us, or taken off the place (belonging thereto) by us, and we further agree not to mistreat the stock and property belonging to and in the care of the said Young, and should we mistreat or damage the same, we agree to pay the damages and should any of us leave or violate this, our contract so as to make it necessary
