Dear Sister we are bound for [somewhere] I [don't] know are leaving tomorrow at one P.M. [W]e may go to Charleston S.C. or Brooklyn N.Y. I think from what the captain told one of the boys we will go to Brooklyn. We are leaving Key West for good[.]
The Seneca[,] another cutter[,] left the Docks for N.Y. at 3 P.M. today and the [Tallapoosa] about 4[.] [T]hey say all the cutters are ordered in northern waters. We have been to sea twice since we got back just got in yesterday[.]
There is one of old man W.R. Johnson's boys signed on the ship the other day.
If we go to New York we will be in the north when our time is up so I will be glad anyway I am glad I got a chance to go home before we went[.]
If we [don't] get torpedoed before we get to our port I will write again and there is about as much danger as me [coming] home with this letter so you can expect one sometime[.] [W]e saw some rough weather on our last trip but did not get sick[.] [I]t is getting dark so I [can't] write much
more as there is no light in the office[.]
I hope mother keeps on [improving][.] I think of her even if I do not write[.] Tuesday is payday so you will hear from us soon with some long green[.] I must close now so good bye from your brother[.]
