Description

Letter from Marion County Deputy Sheriff Henry Burtis Laird to Governor LeRoy Collins confirming the death of Marion County Sheriff Fritzua Lee McGehee. Because the spring term of the circuit court was then in session and the county urgently needed a sheriff to conduct business, Circuit Court Judge D.B. Smith issued an emergency order appointing McGehee's wife, Agnes A. McGehee, as sheriff until the governor could make a more permanent appointment. A copy of Judge Smith's order is enclosed in the letter.
