Florida Folklife Program Recordings
Throughout its history, the Florida Folklife Program has collected thousands of audio recordings documenting children's stories, foodways, religious traditions, Seminole culture, maritime traditions, ethnic folk culture, material culture and occupational lore. These recordings feature folk musicians, craftspersons, storytellers and folklife interpreters.
About the Florida Folklife Program
The Florida Folklife Program documents, presents and preserves Florida's vibrant folklife and traditional culture.
Folklife encompasses the living traditions, folk arts and cultural knowledge shared within communities by word of mouth and example. These expressions are rooted in and reflective of a community's shared standards of beauty, values and experiences.
Through a wide range of projects, Florida Folklife supports the preservation of traditional arts and promotes engagement with Florida's dynamic folk culture. A component of the Florida Department of State, Florida Folklife was established in 1979 by the legislature, and is supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts Folk and Traditional Arts Program.
