State of Florida Jefferson County Articles of agreement made between Wiley Barwick and Jerry Beard, freedman, both of the State and County aforesaid. First, the said Jerry Beard agrees to cultivate the lands of the said Wiley Barwick, known as the old field, and two new grounds, and that he will repair the fence around said land and that he will keep the same in good order and that he will be subject to the directions of the said Wiley Barwick in the cultivation, gathering, and housing of the crop raised on said lands, and that he will perform all the necessary labor on or about said land, that the said Wiley Barwick may require. Second, the said Jerry Beard agrees that he will pay for all extra work that may be necessary to save the crop and he also agrees to furnish one laborer [besides] himself to work on said land. Third, for and consideration of the faithful performance of the above by the said Jerry Beard, the said Wiley Barwick agrees to furnish the said Jerry Beard one house and feed the same, all the necessary implements for the cultivation of said land, and to furnish rations for the said Jerry

Beard and one other laborer, three and one half pounds of pork and one pick of meal each per week, and the said Wiley Barwick hereby reserves the rights to deduct the value of the rations for all time lost. The said Wiley Barwick also agrees to give the said Jerry Beard and his laborer one third of the crop made and gathered on said land, the said crop to be divided on or before the first day January A.D. 1868. And, the said Jerry Beard and his laborer agrees to refund all advances made by the said Barwick during the year, when the crop is divided. It is further agreed between the said Wiley Barwick and the said Jerry Beard, that in case the said Jerry Beard leaves the place before the end of the year, that he is to receive five dollars per month for the time he has worked, the amount payable January 1, 1868.
