State of Florida Jefferson County This agreement made and entered into this fourth day of January A. D. 1867, between Mrs. Clarkey Braden of the first part and the following freed men and freed women of the second part, all of the state and county aforesaid. Witnesseth that the said party of the second part for the consideration hereinafter mentioned do hereby covenant and agree to labor for the party of the first part from the date of these presents until the first day of January A. D. 1868, that during said time the party of the second part agree to labor upon the plantation now owned by the party of the first part to the best of their knowledge, skill, and ability performing the customary labors of plantation laborers, such as tilling the soil, splitting rails, making fence, repairing and building houses, preparing the crop for market, taking care of stock, etc.; that they will labor from daylight till dark, with the customary allowance of time for breakfast and dinner; and that they the party of the same party of the second part will hold themselves responsible for any property purloined to the detriment of the party of the first part from the plantation named above entrusted to their care; and should any stock or farming utensils be injured or destroyed by the party of the second part willfully or maliciously or from neglect, they bind themselves to pay to the party of the first part the full value of such stock or farming utensils so injured or destroyed. It is further agreed that the party of the second part shall not at any time leave the plantation except with permission of the party of the first
