[Duplicate] State of Florida County of Jefferson Agreement made between T.J. Eppes of said county and the undersigned freedmen & laborers. The said Eppes hereby hires the said freedmen to work & labor on his plantation for the year A.D. 1867 and agrees to give them the one fourth (1/4) of all the cotton & corn made & housed by them in said year; to give each of them three & one half (3 1/2) pounds of meat & one peck of corn meal per week and to allow them the half of every Saturday to work in their patches. In consideration of the above, said freedmen hereby hire themselves to the said T.J. Eppes to work on his plantation for the year 1867. They agree to obey all his orders implicitly or the orders of his agent; to be industrious & to do all work required of them; to keep fences in repair around the land allotted to them and to assist in keeping in good order the bridge over Gum Swamp leading to the Bellamy field; never to be insolent or impertinent; not to ride his mules & horses; and to feed & attend to the mules assigned them at all times; to behave themselves quietly & peaceably; not to destroy any of his property & to be responsible for all things placed in their charge; and for advances of money or other things they agree to pay him out of their portion of the cotton & corn made by them. Permission is given the said freedmen to raise their hogs on the place, but they must be kept away from the house & not permitted to impose or interfere with any crops on the plantation. Witness our hands & marks this 18th day of January AD 1867. T.J.
